The purpose of the Healthy Homes Project is to learn about the common health hazards that children are exposed to in their homes and neighborhoods. Information from the survey will help the investigators to design low-cost ways to reduce and remove the hazards that people are exposed to in their homes.
The goals of the study are to increase the number of children in the city screened for asthma and blood lead, and the number of homes in the city that are remediated for hazards that can make children sick.
An automated system will randomly pick phone numbers from a list of household landline numbers in the 48601, 48602, and 48607 area ZIP Codes to contact.
The survey includes questions about children’s health and the physical condition of their house. They will also ask information to find out if any child may have illness that is possibly housing related.
No one will ask for your name or money or try to sell you anything. The survey is meant to provide information that will help to better the lives of children in our community.
After a household is surveyed, someone will visit your neighborhood to assess its physical condition. They will not enter your home.
